Greetings Kansas DBEs,
At the end of September, we were able to come together with some of our DBEs and have a conversation about challenges and next steps in their businesses. This was the last session of Bonding Education Program put on by the U.S. DOT Small Business Transportation Resource Center led by Dr. Joe Roberts of Webster University.
It was great to see those that attended and we missed seeing those who could not make it!
We enjoyed getting to know and work with the U.S. DOT Small Business Transportation Resource Center and look forward to collaborating on more opportunities for the Kansas DBEs!

Colorado nonprofit introduces young women to the trades
Since she was a little girl, Sela Martinez wanted to “do something with rocks.”
Now a senior at Colorado School of Mines, a public research university in Golden, Colorado, she’s finishing her bachelor’s degree in geological engineering. After graduation, Martinez will survey construction sites to help determine things like where teams will bore holes or how well the soil will drain.
“Since a young age, my parents used to take me to the geology museum at Mines, and that’s kind of what made me want to go to Mines and pursue geology,” Martinez said. Read more here.
$6.8M Investment for Nine New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
TOPEKA – Governor Laura Kelly announced today that more than $6.8 million in federal funds will be directed to nine new locations selected for the state’s National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula program. These new direct current (DC) fast-charging stations add to Kansas’ existing electronic vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, forming a more complete statewide EV charging network. Read more here.
