Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families! I am thankful today and throughout the year to have the opportunity to work with each of you.
I want to draw your attention to some changes to Kansas Unemployment Insurance (UI) Tax for 2025. This document provides an overview to changes based on House Bill 2570 that take effect in 2025. If you have questions on how this impacts your business, please reach out to your tax professional.
As we look toward the start of 2025, we want to know where you could use support in your business. How do you want to connect with other Kansas heavy construction businesses? What experts do you want to learn from? Please send any feedback or thoughts (including if you would like to participate in a session in person or online) to info@motsingercpa.com.

KDOT updates schedule for eight IKE projects
The Kansas Department of Transportation released on Friday updated timelines for eight highway modernization and expansion projects in the Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program’s (IKE) Construction Pipeline. Nearly $6M in KDOT Cost Share Program Projects Announced
Governor Laura Kelly announced Thursday that $5.9 million will be awarded to seven transportation construction projects through the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Cost Share Program for fall 2024.
This cost-share investment will leverage $9.8 million in community matching dollars for a total investment of more than $15 million.
“Infrastructure projects funded through the Cost Share Program aren’t just about roads and bridges; they are about increasing job growth and retention and strengthening the economic climate across Kansas,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “By leveraging this partnership with KDOT, communities are able to address necessary, long-term solutions to their local transportation issues.” Read more here (opens to PDF).

In this survey of 225 U.S. high school students, half of students said they were placed on a waitlist for training. Once enrolled, though, 55% participated in internships, 47% in mentorship opportunities and 46% in real-world work experiences. Read more here.
