KDOT announces approved May bids, 6/7 release

The Kansas Department of Transportation announces approved bids for state highway construction and maintenance projects. The letting took place May 24, 2023, in Topeka. Some of the bids may include multiple projects that have been bundled based on proximity and type of work. See them here (links to PDF).

Governor Kelly Announces More Than $11M Awarded for Transportation Projects, 6/6 release
Governor Laura Kelly and Acting Secretary of Transportation Calvin Reed announced this afternoon that more than $11 million will be awarded to 14 transportation construction projects across Kansas. These investments are made possible through the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Cost Share Program for spring 2023. Read more (links to PDF).

Every week the U.S. Chamber’s Vice President of Small Business Policy Tom Sullivan summarizes the latest data and what it means for the health of America’s small businesses. Read it here.

How was ancient Rome built? Missouri professor seeks concrete solution for construction that lasts
A Missouri S&T professor has received a National Science Foundation Grant to study ancient Rome’s recipe for concrete to see if a modern version can incorporate its longevity and durability.

Many ancient Roman structures made of concrete are still standing nearly 2,000 years after they were built. Read more.

June 2023 Business Due Dates

June 15 – Employer’s Monthly Deposit Due
If you are an employer and the monthly deposit rules apply, June 15 is the due date for you to make your deposit of Social Security, Medicare and withheld income tax for May 2023. This is also the due date for the non-payroll withholding deposit for May 2023 if the monthly deposit rule applies.

June 15 – Corporations
Deposit the second installment of estimated income tax for 2023 for calendar year corporations.

*Weekends & Holidays*
If a due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or legal holiday, the due date is automatically extended until the next business day that is not itself a legal holiday.
